Re: Land for the Indian poor farmers

We refer to the above matter and to the news report in the NST 16/07/08 page 23 titled “Vacate in 30 Days”, KTMB tells families. Where Letchumanan and 15 other families squatting on Keretapi Tanah Malaysia Berhad (KTMB) land over the past 40 years. Letchumanan unemployed since an accident is now forced to vacate his 1.5 hectares plot of land where he rears 20 goats, 800 chickens and vegetables, his wife sells at the market. There are fifteen other families in Latchumanan’s shoe. There are thousands of other poor and landless Indians and we are also appealing on their behalf.

We hereby appeal that the Perak State government alienates at least four (4) hectares each of state land to this Mr. Letchumanan and other fifteen others in particular and all landless and poor Indians in the state of Perak who have for the last 50 years been sidelined from the mainstream development by the UMNO controlled Perak and Malaysian government.

After all about the first few things that the Perak State Government did immediately after coming to power was grant all 60,000 families living in new villages in Perak freehold titles on the land they had settled for thus long (Utusan 18/06/08 pg 1).

We hereby appeal that your goodself intervene on an urgent basis and secure a stay from KTMB for these 16 families until a suitable 4 hectare farm land is alienated to them.
